Cerridwen

11" in stunningly detailed cold cast bronze resin, Cerridwen - Mother of Grain and Inspiration - is the great Earth Goddess associated with the eternal cycle of life, death and rebirth.  In this breathtaking depiction she tends her cauldron of wisdom and inspiration, accompanied by her totem animal, the white sow.  Cerridwen is a shapeshifter; able to manifest as a greyhound, an otter, a hawk, and a black hen. She is mother to the great Celtic bard Taliesin; the three drops of Awen (fluid essence) falling from her cauldron onto Gwion’s finger and bringing his wisdom in the form of poetic inspiration, shape-shifting and prophecy. Her herbal potions bring forth initiation and transformation; just as tiny grains become vast fields of wheat that then transform into the bread of sustenance, she is worshipped at harvest time.  A superb piece for altar or display.

Elen of Ways (Keeper of the Forest)

11" in cold cast bronze resin, this glorious figure of  Elen of the Ways is beautifully detailed with highlights of green, blue and mauve.  Whether she is called the Keeper of the Forest, Antlered Reindeer Goddess, Goddess of the Trackways, Elen Luyddogg (Elen of the Hosts) is a figure in Brythonic myth, best known from Welsh legend in the Mabinogion, The Dream of Macsen Wledig.  Mascen Wledig (Magnus Maximus, Emperor of Rome), falls asleep whilst out hunting and dreams of a journey that takes him across rivers and over mountains to a wondrous hall.  Inside, two auburn-haired youths play the board game gwyddbwyll, while an old man sits upon a throne, carving golden gaming pieces. Before him sits a beautiful, flame-haired maiden, with whom Macsen falls instantly in love. Upon waking, Macsen vows to find this maiden, and after much searching he finds her at the castle of Aber Seint.  She is the regal and beautiful Elen, the old man her father Eudaf, with her brother's Cynan and Gadeon.  They fall in love and sleep together that night.  Elen requests the Island of Britain and its three islands as 'maiden-fee' for her father. It is written in Trioedd Ynys Prydein, "Thereafter Elen thought to make high roads from one stronghold to another across the Island of Britain. And the roads were made. And for that reason they are called the Roads of 'Elen of the Hosts', because she was sprung from the Island of Britain, and the men of the Island of Britain would not have made those great hostings for any save her." She is also associated with Olwen of the White Track in the Red Book of Hergest, and Nehallenia, the Celtic-Norse Goddess worshipped at the point where travellers crossed the North Sea from the Netherlands.  Superb detailing throughout.

Justitia

13" in cold cast bronze resin, this is a mighty depiction of the Roman Goddess Justitia (Iustitia). The personification of justice balancing the scales dates back to the Ancient Egyptian Goddesses Maat, and later Isis.  The Greek deities Themis and Dike were later goddesses of justice. Since Roman times, Justitia has been depicted carrying scales and a sword, and wearing a blindfold - a blending of three deities - Roman blindfolded Fortuna (fate), Greek Tyche (luck), and sword-carrying Nemesis (vengeance).  The scales typically suspended from her right hand, she measures the strengths for and against, the  double-edged sword symbolizing the power of Reason and Justice, which she may wielded either for or against the accused. The blindfold represents objectivity - in that justice should be meted out objectively, without fear or favour, regardless of identity, money, power, or weakness - 'blind justice' and impartiality.  Simply known now as 'Lady Justice', she is seen gracing many courthouses throughout the world, with or without her blindfold, (such as our own 'Lady Justice' at the Old Bailey in London).  A beautiful item!

Pan (Large)

12 1/4" high, in cold cast bronze resin, this stunning figure of Pan wonderfully captures the dangerous majesty of the 'goat foot god', companion of the Nymphs. Pan, from the Ancient Greek 'Paein' (to pasture) and the root 'Pa' ('Guardian of the flocks' - the guardian between civilization and the wild). The God of wild mountains, caves, nature, hunting and rustic music, His home is Arcadia, recognised also as the God of fields, groves, wooded glens, shepherds, flocks and the Season of Spring. Pan was the patron of what has come to be known as 'panic sex'; sex for the sake of wanton lust and physical satisfaction. One day Pan came across a beautiful nymph, Syrinx. He tried to seduce her, but she managed to run away. Hotly pursued by Pan, she sought refuge amongst her sisters, who transformed her into a reed. As the wind blew, a melody was produced and Pan, not knowing which reed Syrinx was transformed into, took seven or nine of them and joined them side by side in decreasing length, thus creating the musical instrument that bore the name of the nymph. He is connected to fertility and season of Spring. A wonderful figure to add to your pantheon!

Sheela-na-gig

This glorious depiction of the wonderful Sheela-na-gig is 5" x 3 1/2", in concrete.  This ancient figure is found on churches, castles, and other buildings, particularly in Ireland and Great Britain.  Ireland has the greatest number (101 figures), with 45 examples in Britain.  Our Sheela is probably the most famous, from Kilpeck church, Herefordshire.

The unashamedly female Sheela-na-gig is a depiction of the Mother Goddess and the Cailleach, 'The Divine Hag'.  There are parallels between the Sheela-na-gig and the ancient Irish myth of the Goddess who granted kingship - appearing as a lustful, hideous hag, whose sexual advances would be refused by most men; except for one who accepted! When he submits to her demands with grace and kindness, she magically transforms into a beautiful maiden who confers royalty onto him, blesses his reign and becomes his bride. This ancient Goddess myth came down through the ages as the 'Loathly lady' for whom the knight is blessed for his 'kindness' to her - all aspects of her female sexual power removed.  A great addition to any home or garden!

To obtain that 'weathered' mossy look, simply smear natural live (bio) yoghurt over the surface to encourage the growth of moss and lichens!

Yemaya Goddess of the Living Ocean

10 1/2" overall, this stunning depiction of Yemaya, (Yorùbá Orisha) African Goddess of the living Ocean, considered the Mother of All.  The source of all the waters, including the rivers of western Africa, her name is a contraction of Yey Omo Eja, which means "Mother Whose Children are the Fish." She is motherly and strongly protective of her children, able to cure infertility in women, and cowrie shells represent her wealth. Although slow to anger, her rage is destructive and violent, as is the stormy sea. Brought to the New World from Africa, she is worshipped in Brazilian Candomblé where she is known as Yemanja or Imanje, the Sea Mother who brings fish to the fishermen, and the crescent moon is her sign. In Haitian Vodoo she is the Moon Goddess who protects mothers and their children. She is associated with the mermaid-spirits of Lasirenn, who brings seduction and wealth, and Labalenn, her sister the whale. A truly lovely item!
